2013 Capone Racing Information
And couple buddies and a beer: hasn't that just been the classic beginning to many drag race teams?
In 2001, Frank Capone put his newly beefed up Dyna Superglide with "some light motor work" (taking the stock 88 cid to a 95 cid) by friend and former machinist defense contractor, Mark Godin. They added a Mikuni Carb and headed out for New England Dragway.
Capone, "Did we know what we were doing?? Did we care?? Were we having some fun? YOU BET. And the first addicting pass, a 13.35 ET --- those were the days. But by October, we had the bike in the 12's and we were hooked."
For 4 years until late 2005, now regular faces at New England Dragway and motor builder/machinist team were ready to try their fate at the AHDRA (the lead Harley drag race sanction of the time). They tested the waters in the SEP class and they liked it. Continuing to step up their program, in Oct. 2006, they joined the Super Gas class on an old Pro Mod Harley-Davidson at Budds Creek, MD. In late 2009, Capone went pro by earning his Pro Stock license at Rockingham Dragway.
Capone Racing ran the National AHDRA Screamin' Eagle Series and in 2010 Capone was 6th in Pro Mod points. He was honored as AHDRA Pro Rookie of the Year in voting by his peers.
By 2011 Capone began breaking reocrds setting the Pro Mod 1/8 mile 5.264 ET and 1/4 mile 8.338 ET mile at Rockingham. These records stood for a year.
In 2012 Capone won 5 of 9 races he entered, they broke 1/8 mph record multiple times which will remain in infamy at 134.50 mph. They captured the AHDRA National Championship in the Pro Mod class and were 2nd Pro Gas points standings by winning 2 events and runner up at the 3rd.
With the demise of AHDRA, Capone is participating in the AMRA (American Motorcycle Racing Assoc) and will compete in the Lucas Oil NHRA Harley-Davidson Race Series.
Capone Racing will campaign a Pro Mod (deeply modified now) with a 114 cid 4 cam Harley-Davidson with a 70 inch wheelbase, and a 7 in Mickey Thompson slick. Look for them at a track near you.
